Did you know that your liver plays an integral role in your hormonal health?

Think of your liver like a filter that cleans and detoxifies your body by catching chemicals and toxins found in food, alcohol, pharmaceutical drugs, personal care products and the environment around us. Too much of this stuff overwhelms the liver and clogs up its filtering system. One unpleasant and downright dangerous consequence of a stopped up liver is poor estrogen detoxification.

Once estrogen’s magical work in the body is done, it’s sent to the liver to be broken down so that it can be excreted from the body. There’s a “Goldilocks” effect with estrogen; you want just the right amount for hormone harmony. Too much estrogen can contribute to cardiovascular issues, low thyroid function, autoimmunity and the development of certain hormone-related cancers. Excess estrogen is the most common cause of female hormonal issues prior to menopause.

While common, it’s not normal to suffer from estrogen excess symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings, anxiety, breast swelling/tenderness, bloating/water retention, sleep issues, fibroids, weight gain, low thyroid, hair loss, achy joints, excessive/irregular periods or uncomfortable menopausal symptoms. It’s your body’s way of telling you that something isn’t right.
