My Story

Diana Walley

I never dreamed that the anguish of having a sick child would lead me to my life’s work, but that’s exactly what happened. Nearly a decade ago, my second daughter, Caroline, developed a mysterious skin rash shortly after birth. Over time, the rash spread to cover her entire body, and her skin became raw and bloody from the constant itching. It was heart breaking. My baby girl cried inconsolably for hours at a time – and I did, too!  She was suffering, and I felt helpless. I was exhausted, frustrated and desperate for help.

Although I was well-versed in health and nutrition and tried every “natural” remedy under the sun, I was unable to help my sick child. I frantically searched the Internet for answers and spent thousands of dollars consulting with highly-regarded alternative healthcare practitioners, only to come up empty handed.

As Caroline’s condition worsened, she was diagnosed with severe atopic dermatitis – a condition she would suffer with for the rest of her life. Her doctor recommended medication that was linked to lymphoma (yes, that’s cancer!) and assured my husband and I that her condition had absolutely nothing to do with her diet. I knew in my gut they were wrong. We refused the prescription drugs, and I hardened my resolve to find a holistic approach to heal my daughter.

After several more desperate attempts to find a practitioner to help Caroline, I was referred to a bright and compassionate doctor of Oriental medicine who accurately identified the root cause of my daughter’s condition and initiated the healing process.

While Oriental medicine helped tremendously, it wasn’t a magic bullet.  Caroline also suffered from several food allergies, which I knew were a symptom of a deeper imbalance in her body. She seemed to have an allergic reaction to everything she ate!

I was at rock bottom, yet I knew intuitively that there was an answer. One day, this deep-seated drive inside me to find a solution literally picked me up off of the couch, shook me by the arms and shouted at me to take matters into my own hands! That’s exactly what I did.

Being the typical “Type A” personality, “taking things into my own hands,” meant enrolling in a rigorous two-year nutrition certification program and putting a tremendous amount of pressure on myself to earn top grades. At the same time, I was stressed out of my mind trying to heal my daughter, manage a busy household, volunteer at my daughter’s elementary school, start a business, etc. Sound familiar?

The good news is that nutrition school taught me the science I was desperately seeking, and Caroline’s health made a dramatic turnaround.  Today, she’s a vibrant young lady with glowing skin and hardly remembers the suffering she endured as a youngster.

Diana WalleyThe bad news – which is actually the pearl of wisdom in my journey – is that my health slowly declined during this stressful time period. I was eventually diagnosed with adrenal insufficiency. Fortunately, I was never terribly ill, but I certainly was not on top of my game. I experienced fatigue, menstrual cycle irregularities, mood swings and insomnia for the first time in my life. My hormones were completely out of whack.

How could this happen to me? I understood health. I knew the research. Luckily, I knew how to get well. But I began to wonder what a person without a background in nutrition would do in this situation? As I came to realize, they either suffer silently because they’re told their symptoms are “normal,” or they enter the world of polypharmacy – they take multiple drugs (with multiple side effects) for conditions that could be managed through diet and lifestyle.

However arduous my journey, I am deeply grateful, because it helped me to identify my true calling. Today I am blessed with a thriving nutrition practice where I focus on women and hormone balance. The more women I see, the more I realize how prevalent hormone imbalance is, and how seemingly “normal” symptoms like extreme sugar cravings, brain fog, stubborn belly fat, chronic fatigue and PMS are so often brushed-off by conventional medicine.  It wasn’t until I synchronized my hormones that I was able to put my symptoms behind me for good and reclaim my health.

I’m a health care practitioner, but first and foremost I’m a woman.  I understand that a woman needs to nourish her body, mind and spirit to be truly vibrant.  I’m here to tell you that self-care is not optional – it’s mandatory! (In other words, don’t feel guilty about that monthly massage!)

The best path to hormone harmony is to determine the underlying cause of your ailment and then to address it first from a holistic perspective. I can help you identify and address the root cause of your symptoms, so, like me, you can synchronize your hormones and revitalize your life!

Nearly a decade ago, I began my journey into the world of holistic healthcare with the goal of healing my daughter. This adventure brought me to my life’s work, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I’m here to listen to your story and to help you achieve your health goals. My story has a happy ending, and yours can, too!
